Power2X takes final investment decision for Djewels green hydrogen plant in Delfzijl

An important new milestone for the hydrogen economy in the Northern Netherlands has been reached, as Power2X announced the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Djewels green hydrogen project in Delfzijl. The 20 MW electrolyser at Chemical Park Delfzijl is now entering the construction phase, with first hydrogen production expected by mid-2028.

The Djewels project will produce around 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually for industrial users in the region, further strengthening the position of the Northern Netherlands as one of Europe’s leading hydrogen regions. The hydrogen produced is planned to be used within the Hydrogen Valley Northern Netherlands ecosystem, supporting industrial decarbonisation and regional energy transition ambitions.

While the electrolyser itself is not funded by the HEAVENN programme, the electricity infrastructure that will supply power to electrolysers at Chemical Park Delfzijl is part of HEAVENN. Within this cluster, HEAVENN supports the wider development of hydrogen infrastructure and applications in the Eemshaven-Delfzijl region, including facilities for green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel production, hydrogen transport solutions and maritime applications.

With coordinated investments in hydrogen production, infrastructure and industrial applications continuing across the region, the Northern Netherlands is further cementing its role as a European frontrunner in clean hydrogen development.

At the start of 2026, Power2X acquired consortium partner HyCC, a valued partner in the programme, to accelerate the delivery of clean molecules in the Netherlands and North-West Europe. HEAVENN congratulates Power2X on reaching this important milestone.
